Paul Kelly is returning to Kings Cross for the first time in decades with a one-off performance at the Potts Point Hotel on 30 August. The venue sits beside the Manzil Room, a late-night nightclub where Kelly performed repeatedly during the mid-to-late 1980s and which now stands as a residential building. The location carries deep personal significance for the musician, who recalls the intimate three-set performances starting around 1 a.m. and attended by a mix of night-shift workers and creative figures including painter Brett Whiteley. A recently completed mural of Kelly by artist Scottie Marsh adorns the hotel's exterior, marking the symbolic return to his creative birthplace.
Kelly's homecoming show serves as a launch event for the deluxe edition of his 2025 album Seventy, with ticket access granted through pre-orders or a ballot system. The performance marks another milestone in an extraordinarily decorated career spanning five decades: Seventy debuted at No. 2 on Australia's ARIA Albums Chart, and Kelly is simultaneously releasing a 40th anniversary reissue of his landmark 1986 double album Gossip. As a 17-time ARIA Award winner and Hall of Fame inductee, Kelly has written several enduring Australian classics and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2017 for his contributions to the performing arts.
