Pebble, the pioneering smartwatch brand that collapsed in 2016, has returned with the Pebble Time 2, reviewed by Engadget as a deliberately minimalist device aimed at users who feel modern smartwatches have become bloated. Rather than competing with general-purpose wearables from Apple, Samsung and Google, the watch focuses on core functions such as notifications, music control, weather and simple single-task apps, echoing the restraint of the early smartwatch era that made the original Pebble a Kickstarter phenomenon.

The Time 2 revives a second-generation design that never launched before Pebble's demise, now refined with a CNC-milled, PVD-coated body and stainless steel buttons. It features a 1.5-inch, 220 x 228 resolution, 64-color, always-on e-paper touchscreen bonded to Gorilla Glass, powered by a SiFli chip based on an ARM Cortex M33 platform, alongside a 185mAh battery and 32MB of storage. Founder Eric Migicovsky, who regained the Pebble trademark from Google last year, has already received 20,000 orders, suggesting continued demand for a simpler alternative to today's feature-heavy smartwatches.
