Peggy Hill’s voice actor had no idea people didn’t like her King of the Hill character

Polygon · 2 hours ago

Kathy Najimy, who has voiced Peggy Hill on King of the Hill since 1997, has revealed she was unaware that a significant portion of the show's fanbase dislikes her character. Peggy stands out among adult animation's matriarchs, such as Marge Simpson and Lois Griffin, for being deliberately flawed rather than a voice-of-reason figure, with her self-importance and meddling frequently driving the show's plots. This has made her a divisive figure among viewers, some of whom find her comic flaws endearing while others consider her arrogant and irritating.

Speaking to Polygon ahead of King of the Hill's 15th season, Najimy expressed surprise on learning of the "Why does everyone hate Peggy?" threads on the show's subreddit and a Collider article naming her the fandom's "punching bag," joking she would "need to take some pills and some liquor" to process the news. She defended Peggy's meddling as typical maternal behaviour, and co-star Toby Huss, who voices Dale, backed her up, arguing that the show's characters are compelling precisely because they are flawed but ultimately retain their humanity. King of the Hill season 15 is now streaming on Hulu.
