Extreme metal pioneer Tom G Warrior has said that progressive music was a major influence on him as a teenager, despite the apparent contrast with his work in Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Triptykon. In a 2017 interview, he singled out Roxy Music as an important inspiration and said their influence could be heard in Celtic Frost’s development.
Warrior also praised Keith Emerson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, particularly the classical elements in albums such as Tarkus. He recalled discovering Roxy Music through a southern German radio station that played substantial amounts of progressive rock, stressing that many artists shaped his musical outlook.
