Pepe Aguilar Elevates Mariachi With ‘Los Aguilar Sinfónico Desde el Hollywood Bowl’: ‘I Returned, But With My Children — That’s Very Fulfilling’
Pepe Aguilar has released a live symphonic album, "Los Aguilar Sinfónico Desde el Hollywood Bowl," recorded during two performances he gave with his children Leonardo and Ángela Aguilar in August 2025 at the famous Los Angeles venue. The concerts saw the family blend traditional mariachi with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, marking the first time a Mexican music act had played the Hollywood Bowl in 23 years, since Pepe's own solo orchestral show there in 2002. For Aguilar, a multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winner, performing alongside his children at such a storied venue carries particular significance, both as a continuation of his family's musical legacy and as a statement about the enduring relevance of mariachi.
The album, produced by Machin Records, contains 25 tracks spanning traditional Mexican music, opening with an "Overture on the Theme of 'Huapango'" and including a medley of horse-themed songs from Leonardo and a tribute to the late Flor Silvestre performed by her granddaughter Ángela. Pepe contributes 13 tracks, including chart hits such as "Por Una Mujer Bonita" and "Perdóname," while Leonardo and Ángela each perform six songs, among them "El Barzón" and "La Malagueña." In accompanying comments, Aguilar reflected on carrying forward the tradition passed down by his father, Antonio Aguilar, and on mariachi's continued vitality despite streaming platforms favouring urban and corrido genres.
