## Summary

Peter Capaldi has warned that Doctor Who needs leaders who understand and love the series, saying some BBC executives “don’t really understand it”. Speaking on the Half the Picture podcast, the former Doctor argued that a small group of dedicated professionals should guide the programme, which he sees as an iconic British institution.

Capaldi praised Russell T. Davies and Steven Moffat for bringing knowledge of the show’s history and a personal affection for it to their work. The article says a return to the BBC is being considered for 2028 or 2029, though nothing is confirmed; reports have linked Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio’s production company to a possible takeover. Davies has suggested production with a new Doctor and companion could begin next summer.
