A new documentary has re-examined the 25-year-old murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio, whose body has never been recovered since he was killed in the Australian Outback in 2001. Two leading investigators have retraced the movements of his killer, Bradley John Murdoch, and identified a possible location where his remains may have been hidden. The development matters because Murdoch died in July last year without ever revealing where he disposed of the body, leaving Mr Falconio's family without the chance to lay him to rest.

Mr Falconio, 28, from Huddersfield, was shot dead and his girlfriend Joanne Lees assaulted at gunpoint when Murdoch ambushed their camper van on the isolated Stuart Highway near Barrow Creek in the Northern Territory. Murdoch was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for at least 28 years, and was thought to have disposed of the body somewhere across more than 1,200 miles of desert between Alice Springs and Broome. In the U&W documentary "Outback Terror: The Falconio Murder", former FBI criminal profiler Kathy Canning-Mello and geoforensic search specialist Dr Mark Harrison point to an abandoned racecourse about five miles from the murder scene as a potential burial site.
