Author and journalist Peter FitzSimons testified in Alan Jones's Sydney trial, describing how a former 2GB radio staffer broke down in tears and said he felt "revolted" after alleging he had been sexually assaulted by the veteran broadcaster. FitzSimons told Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court that the young man, who confided in him anonymously by phone, was "completely emotionally traumatised" by what he described as unwanted advances from Jones, who he saw as the most powerful figure at Sydney's then top-rating radio station. The testimony forms part of a wider trial in which Jones faces 22 charges of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent, brought by six complainants.

FitzSimons said he was put in touch with the staffer by fellow broadcaster Ray Hadley, and the man alleged Jones had put his hand on his knee and groin while being driven by him, an advance he pushed away, and separately had pinned him against a lift wall at his Circular Quay home, grabbing his groin and kissing him. Eight of the 22 charges relate to this staffer. FitzSimons said the man was too upset and panicked for him to take the matter further at the time. Jones, 85, appeared to avoid eye contact with FitzSimons in court and has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which allegedly occurred between 2003 and 2020 in Sydney and the NSW Southern Highlands; he denies the allegations, calling them false and driven by rivalry and opportunism. The trial is expected to run for four months.
