Phil Collins has revealed he nearly died in 2024 after his alcohol addiction left him critically ill in hospital, with his five children called to his bedside to say what they feared might be a final goodbye. Speaking to the Sunday Times, the former Genesis frontman said he was first hospitalised in Switzerland over his drinking in November 2023, discharged shortly before Christmas, then readmitted weeks later and spent seven months receiving treatment as his condition deteriorated.

By April 2024 Collins was unconscious and doctors faced decisions over whether to keep him on life support, as his kidneys and other organs began failing; he says he has not remembered the visit from his children, who feared they wouldn't see him again, but has not had a drink since. He remains in fragile health, requiring a 24-hour live-in nurse and having undergone five knee operations, though he says he now feels healthier. Collins will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in November but has ruled out performing, while a reissue of his debut album 'Face Value', titled 'Face Value (Full Value)', is due for release on 18 September.
