Phil Collins has said he has been sober for three years after a relapse into alcoholism contributed to severe organ failure and nearly killed him in 2024. The Genesis singer and drummer said he now feels significantly better following rehabilitation and regular physiotherapy, while continuing to manage longstanding mobility problems.

Collins described drinking wine throughout the day rather than appearing visibly drunk, until his kidneys and liver failed and he was hospitalised unconscious for much of 2024; his family considered withdrawing life support. He has undergone five knee operations and has drop foot, requiring crutches, but said possible new music remains under consideration. He will enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in November, and a 45th-anniversary box set of 1981’s Face Value is due on 18 September.
