Phil Collins has revealed that he nearly died in 2024 after alcohol abuse caused his organs to fail, requiring hospitalisation and life support. The 74-year-old former Genesis drummer and solo star disclosed the ordeal in a new interview with The Sunday Times, giving a rare and candid account of how close he came to death and the damage years of heavy drinking had done to his health.

Collins said doctors and family faced decisions over whether to keep him on life support as his kidneys and other organs began "seizing up", and that people close to him were coming to say goodbye, though he has no memory of those visits. He said he was entirely unaware at the time of how serious his condition was, admitting "it could all have gone so terribly wrong." He has since given up alcohol following his hospitalisation.
