## Key points

- Rivers is reportedly sounding out potential assistants for NC State.
- He remains a leading candidate, but has not been named coach.
- Russell Wilson has also interviewed for the job.

## Summary

Philip Rivers has reportedly begun sounding out possible assistants for a North Carolina State coaching staff, although he has not been appointed head coach. The former Wolfpack quarterback is a leading candidate following Dave Doeren’s departure, and the reports suggest the school’s search may be moving towards a decision.

Rivers played four seasons at NC State and has said the job is not imminent, while leaving open the possibility. Russell Wilson, another former Wolfpack quarterback, also entered the search and interviewed with officials on Tuesday. Rivers’s son Gunner, a four-star quarterback prospect, has committed to NC State; reports say Rivers remains the focus and is meeting school officials.
