## Key points

- Philip Rivers met NC State leaders about its head coaching vacancy.
- His son’s commitment would be a factor, but not decisive.
- Rivers says there is no further update as the search continues.

## Summary

Philip Rivers has acknowledged meeting NC State leaders about the vacant head coaching role, but says there is no decision or further update yet. The discussion matters because Rivers is a celebrated former Wolfpack quarterback who is reportedly central to the university’s search.

Rivers, 44, said the meeting took place on Wednesday and that coaching his son, Gunner, who has committed to NC State for 2027, would be special but not decisive. He is currently head coach at St. Michael’s Catholic High School, whose playoff run has ended. NC State fired Dave Doeren on 24 October and appointed Todd Goebbel interim head coach; former Wolfpack quarterback Russell Wilson has also reportedly been interviewed.
