## Key points

- Philippines prepares charges over alleged abuse material.
- Police say searches uncovered more than 7,000 images.
- US investigators are verifying ownership of seized phones.

## Summary

Philippine authorities are preparing to pursue criminal charges against Thomas Markle over alleged possession of child sexual abuse material, following a joint investigation with US officials. The case is significant because it may lead to separate proceedings in the Philippines after Markle was arrested and charged in Florida.

Police say searches of items passed to them by Markle’s son uncovered more than 7,000 images and one video, allegedly involving under-age people. The seized material included devices and storage media; US investigators are also checking phone serial numbers to verify ownership, which Filipino prosecutors have been awaiting before filing a case.
