Philips Hue is launching a $39.99 module that lets owners of Nanoleaf's Hexagon, Triangle and Mini Triangle wall panels integrate them into the Hue smart lighting ecosystem, marking Hue's first move into modular wall panels without building its own. Rather than compete, the two rival companies have partnered, letting Hue users control Nanoleaf panels via the Hue app with full access to scenes, automations, switches and entertainment features, despite Hue's parent company Signify having recently sued Nanoleaf over patent infringement.

The module, available from 3 September, contains a full Hue connectivity stack running Bluetooth, Zigbee and Thread, enabling simultaneous use with Matter apps such as Apple Home. For now, users must choose between the Hue module and Nanoleaf's own controller, meaning the Hue module currently sacrifices Nanoleaf's dynamic scenes, screen mirroring and music-reactive features, plus physical controls; dual support is promised within a couple of months. The integration, developed over 18 months, currently covers only Nanoleaf's Shapes range, and from 1 October Hue will sell Nanoleaf Hexagon and Triangle starter kits directly, starting at $49.99.
