Belgium's Jasper Philipsen won stage 17 of the Tour de France in a bunch sprint, finally securing his first stage victory after a frustrating three weeks in which he had repeatedly lost out to compatriot Tim Merlier. The Alpecin-Premier Tech rider, who won the green points jersey in 2023, had been visibly furious after earlier stages when team-mate Mathieu van der Poel mistimed a lead-out, but this time Van der Poel delivered a strong lead-out that carried Philipsen to a comfortable win.

The 174.7km stage ran from Chambery to Voiron and saw a large breakaway of more than 40 riders, including green jersey holder Mads Pedersen and Britain's Josh Tarling, before the race came back together for the sprint finish. Pedersen finished eighth but clung on to the green jersey by just seven points over Philipsen, setting up a close contest before Paris. Overall leader Tadej Pogacar had a quiet day, finishing well behind in the peloton but retaining a comfortable lead over Remco Evenepoel and Isaac del Toro, while Pogacar's team-mate Adam Yates struggled with illness and finished more than 26 minutes down.
