A Philadelphia woman’s planned move to Florida was disrupted after her Honda was stolen from South Philadelphia with most of her possessions inside. Julia MacDonald, 33, said the theft left her without transport, forced her and her father into temporary Airbnb accommodation, and caused significant financial loss while they wait for insurance.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed thieves using a drill to enter and reprogramme the vehicle at about 4am on Saturday. MacDonald traced some discarded belongings through her AirPods and recovered items with neighbours’ help, but a jewellery box containing possessions from her late grandmother remains missing; police later recovered the car, which she said was no longer driveable. Philadelphia police statistics cited in the article show property crime down 8.5% and violent crime down about 3.5% on 2025, although 201 vehicle thefts were recorded between 17 and 23 August.
