A 58-year-old woman has died following a suspected hit-and-run crash near Edinburgh Airport, with police charging three people in connection with the incident. Linda Patterson was driving one of four vehicles involved in the collision on the A8 Glasgow Road near Newbridge on Monday morning and was pronounced dead at the scene, prompting an outpouring of tributes from family and friends who described her as a "beautiful soul".

The crash happened at 9.25am, with four other people taken to hospital for treatment. A 32-year-old man and two women, aged 19 and 23, were subsequently charged and were due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. Police used sniffer dogs and helicopters during the search, and the A8 remained closed until 7pm as investigations continued. Officers said they were no longer looking for anyone else in connection with the crash but were still appealing for witnesses and dashcam or CCTV footage.
