A woman who was allegedly stabbed to death in her home in Melbourne, Australia, has been named as 39-year-old Lavanya Achanta, a mother of two. Her husband, 39-year-old Srinivas Achanta, was treated by paramedics at the scene before being arrested and taken to hospital under police guard. The killing has unsettled the quiet residential neighbourhood where the family lived, and forms part of an ongoing homicide investigation by Victoria Police.

Ms Achanta was found dead inside her home on Delatite Court in Vermont, in east Melbourne, at around 10pm on Tuesday night. No charges had been laid as of Wednesday evening, and forensic officers were seen examining the property, with crime scene tape stretched from the front fence to the footpath. Neighbours said the couple had moved to the home with their two children about two years earlier and mostly kept to themselves; police stated it was believed the parties were known to one another and appealed for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
