## Summary

The animated Western *Rango*, starring Johnny Depp and directed by *Pirates of the Caribbean* filmmaker Gore Verbinski, is coming to Peacock in November 2026. The move may introduce younger viewers to one of Depp’s less-discussed films, which blends children’s animation with themes and styles drawn from classic Westerns and crime films.

Despite being described as overlooked, *Rango* was a critical and commercial success and won an Academy Award. Its influences include *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly*, *Django* and *Chinatown*, while Depp’s character echoes his role in *Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas*. Critic Roger Ebert praised how the film could engage viewers familiar with older cinema while still surprising children.
