Pogacar fights off Mas challenge to win stage six
Tadej Pogacar won stage six of the Vuelta a Espana after resisting a strong challenge from Enric Mas, extending his overall lead in the race. The victory was his third of this Vuelta and keeps him on course to pursue the title that would complete a full set of Grand Tour wins.
Pogacar briefly went off the road after overtaking Mas on a descent, but avoided a serious crash and later beat the Spaniard in a two-man sprint. Mas moved into second overall, 3 minutes 34 seconds behind Pogacar, while Primoz Roglic lost 46 seconds; Welsh rider Josh Tarling abandoned the race following the recent death of his brother Finlay.
