A rumour circulating on social media claims that Pokémon Winds and Waves, the next main entry in the series, could introduce the largest number of new Pokémon of any game in the franchise's history. The claim, originating from the account CentroLeaks on X, has split the fanbase over whether such a large expansion would improve the game or overwhelm it, making it a notable talking point ahead of any official announcement.

CentroLeaks later clarified that the reported figure — speculated by fans to be around 300 — would include both entirely new Pokémon and new forms of existing ones, and stressed that it should be treated purely as a rumour. Nintendo, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company have confirmed nothing beyond the handful of creatures shown in the announcement trailer.
