## Key points

- Poland increased security on the Kaliningrad border.
- People with flashlights were spotted near Sępopol.
- No one crossed into Poland.

## Summary

Poland has stepped up security along its border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region after Prime Minister Donald Tusk said officials had thwarted a possible provocation. The incident adds urgency to warnings from Polish and allied intelligence services about possible sabotage or other hostile activity in early November.

Shortly after midnight, border guards reported people with flashlights near Sępopol in Warmian-Masurian province; no one crossed into Poland. Tusk said authorities rapidly mobilised personnel and resources, while Poland has increasingly warned of potential Russian “hybrid” attacks, including against countries supporting Ukraine.
