Police are investigating an alleged assault linked to an incident in Derby involving England fast bowler Brydon Carse, who was briefly arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being de-arrested. Carse has been left out of England’s second Test against Pakistan, adding to concerns about alcohol-related incidents involving members of the team and prompting calls to rebuild public trust.

The incident occurred at about 4am on Sunday outside a Derby nightclub, where Carse had been celebrating Durham’s County Championship victory with Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts. Derbyshire Police have not said whether Carse was involved in the alleged assault; no arrests have been made in that investigation, while the independent Cricket Regulator is conducting a separate inquiry. England captain Joe Root said he was “really hacked off” and that the side must work to restore confidence.
