Green, who was elected to council in 2024 and is running for reelection, deleted his Twitter account before launching his campaign. The resurfacing of approximately 10,000 tweets is politically significant as it contrasts with his current public positioning and raises questions about his past rhetoric.

Green's tweets from 2020–2021 included statements such as "abolish the police" (December 2020), "all cops are bastards," describing police as "absolute monsters," and declaring "I think the left should riot more." In July 2021, he wrote that far-right commentator Nick Fuentes should be "whipped in the head with a framing hammer." When confronted, Green characterised the violent rhetoric as hyperbole and expressed regret about the posts' appearance, though he has not issued a full apology. He continues to maintain his goal of police abolition, arguing that property destruction is distinct from violence against people.
