A posthumous memoir by L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been announced, set for publication in early 2027. Titled Shooting Up and Making Out: A Memoir of My Life in LA and L7, the book was completed before Finch's death and will detail her teenage years in the Los Angeles punk scene, her heroin addiction and her time in various bands. Its publication matters as a final, first-person account from a key figure in the pioneering feminist grunge movement, shared with the involvement of her co-writer to ensure it reflects her wishes.

Co-written with Jeff Alulis over two years, the memoir is due via Da Capo on 19 January 2027. Finch died on 18 July at the age of 59, having been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011 and later an aggressive brain cancer, with a GoFundMe set up by her L7 bandmates citing "unforeseen complications" from radiation treatment that required multiple surgeries. With her blessing, L7 will still proceed with their planned North American farewell tour in October.

Heroin addiction and time in punk bands still to be detailed in a completed manuscript from a founding member of L7, a Los Angeles band formed in the mid-1980s that became one of the best-known groups in the feminist grunge and punk movement, mixing hard-edged rock with outspoken politics. Jennifer Finch played bass in the band's original line-up before later leaving, and had also worked in music-industry roles beyond performing.

The memoir was written with co-author Jeff Alulis and finished before Finch's death, meaning it stands as her own account of her life rather than a biography assembled afterwards. She died in July at 59 after being treated for cancer over several years, and her former bandmates have spoken publicly about the circumstances of her final illness.

The book's release also comes as L7 prepare to carry out a farewell tour that Finch had supported, so the two events are being reported together as connected markers of the band's history and legacy.
