Mauro Paul Coluzzi, a 57-year-old postman, has been jailed until December 2027 after pleading guilty to leading two criminal syndicates that stole bank cards from customers' secure mail over 15 months. His gambling addiction drove him to systematically pilfer cards from post in Sydney's eastern suburbs, constituting a significant breach of trust that undermined public confidence in Australia Post's reliability.

Coluzzi and two co-conspirators defrauded customers and banks of more than $130,000, with Coluzzi personally obtaining nearly $30,000 in cash and goods including 24-carat gold bracelets, mobile phones and online gaming gift cards. An employee with an unblemished record since 2007, Coluzzi began the scheme in early 2024 and grew increasingly anxious about Australia Post security changes that might prevent future thefts, indicating his intention to continue the fraud.
