Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart returns to Coogee Beach with daughter
Shark attack survivor Leah Stewart has returned to Coogee Beach for the first time since a great white mauled her in June. The primary school teacher shared a video of herself walking towards the water with her young daughter, August, saying that returning took considerable effort after months of flashbacks and fear.
Stewart was swimming about 30 metres from shore when the shark injured her thigh and left arm; she later had part of the arm amputated. She has said that thinking of her daughter drove her to fight back, and that recovery is helping her resume things she loves with greater appreciation. Supporters praised her return and wished her well.
