Google is preparing to open pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptop line on 21 September at 9am ET, according to notifications sent to customers who signed up for updates. The devices, first announced in May, mark Google's push into higher-end laptops and will run a version of ChromeOS built on Android, with Gemini Intelligence integrated throughout the operating system. This positions Google alongside established manufacturers in a premium hardware segment while leaning heavily on generative AI as a selling point.

Partner manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, all of which already produce Chromebooks, are set to release Googlebook models. Notable AI-driven features include the "Magic Pointer," which offers contextual on-screen suggestions when activated by wiggling the cursor, alongside the ability to generate custom widgets. The laptops will also feature a "glowbar" on the lid and offer close integration with Android smartphones, though Google has otherwise revealed few official details since the brand's initial announcement.
