Prime Video Officially Reveals the Fate of Its Sleeper-Hit Action Series Perfect for ‘Reacher’ Fans

Collider · 41 minutes ago

Prime Video has officially cancelled the action series Ride or Die after a single season, despite the show receiving critical acclaim and strong audience numbers. The series, which debuted during summer and stars Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham as best friends on the run after one is revealed to be an international assassin, achieved a 96% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and became one of the most-watched shows globally. The cancellation is particularly notable given the show's commercial and critical success in a landscape where streaming cancellations have become increasingly common.

Although Ride or Die was produced within budget, Amazon executives determined it failed to attract the desired demographic. The streaming company apparently believed a series centred on middle-aged women would primarily appeal to viewers already using Amazon Prime for shopping purposes, and therefore would not meaningfully attract new subscribers. However, the series is not entirely dead, as the production studio Paramount Television Studios is currently seeking alternative buyers for the programme.
