Prime Video has struck a deal with Ridley Scott's Scott Free Productions to adapt Holly Black's bestselling Folk of the Air trilogy for television, giving fantasy fans a new series to anticipate. The announcement comes as Amazon looks to fill the gap left by cancelled fantasy projects, and follows Hulu's 2025 axing of its A Court of Thorns and Roses adaptation, positioning the new show as a potential replacement for romantasy fans disappointed by that cancellation.

Black, who wrote the books, will produce the series alongside Scott's company, adapting a trilogy that began with The Cruel Prince in 2018, followed by The Wicked King and The Queen of Nothing, plus several accompanying novellas. The move comes despite Prime Video's mixed record with fantasy adaptations, most notably its cancellation of The Wheel of Time after three seasons in 2025, a decision attributed to high production costs and shifting viewing habits, which has left some fans wary despite ongoing campaigns for that show's revival.
