Prime Video is significantly expanding its original content strategy across Scandinavia, building on the success of psychological crime thrillers to establish a competitive presence in the region. The platform is leveraging the Nordic region's strong heritage in crime drama and investing in partnerships with local broadcasters and production companies to develop a slate of new originals.

The expansion began in January 2026 with the launch of "Snake Killer", a four-part Danish series featuring actor Pilou Asbæk as a Copenhagen narcotics police unit commander. Upcoming titles include the Norwegian drama "Rinnan" and the Swedish psychological thriller "Sarek". Whilst current offerings appeal predominantly to male audiences, Amazon MGM Studios' Nordic originals chief Emilia Widstrand has signalled a strategic shift to attract women and younger viewers through female-led narratives and a broader content mix, citing success with shows such as "The Idea of You" and "Pretty Little Liars".
