Despite ranking among Kinnaman's most notable career misfires at the time, the film has climbed back into the global top 10 on the platform in several countries, though viewer opinions on the reboot itself remain largely negative even now.

The 2014 film grossed $242 million against a $100 million budget, enough to avoid being deemed a box-office bomb but not enough to launch a new franchise; critics and fans were also put off by its shift from the original series' R-rating to a more accessible PG-13 certificate. Kinnaman has since built a reputation as a reliable action star through projects including Netflix's Detective Hole and last year's Icefall. Separately, Prime Video is developing a new RoboCop reboot series with Dan Stevens cast as Alex Murphy, following in the footsteps of both Kinnaman and original star Peter Weller.
