Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 will shift the franchise’s central power dynamic, portraying a future in which replicants have won an uprising and humans have become second-class citizens. The series matters because it moves the cyberpunk story beyond the worlds established by Ridley Scott’s 1982 film and Denis Villeneuve’s 2017 sequel, while reinterpreting its visual and political foundations.

Set in Los Angeles in 2099, the show stars Hunter Schafer as Cora, a human posing as a replicant, and Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner pursuing rogue replicants. Showrunner Silka Luisa describes its warmer coastal look as “sunshine noir”, contrasting with the franchise’s familiar dark, rain-soaked cityscape; the first trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con, and the series premieres on Prime Video on 25 November.
