Prime Video has renewed its Norse historical drama Bloodaxe for a second season even before the first has premiered, underlining the streamer's confidence in the show as a successor to its popular Vikings franchise. Created by Michael and Horatio Hirst, who previously wrote for Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla, the series follows Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe and his wife Gunnhild as they battle rivals for the Norwegian throne.

The streamer has confirmed new additions to the Season 2 cast, with Gard Løkke joining as a series regular alongside recurring roles for Melina Åkerman, Kieran Bew, Sebastian Bull and George Burgess. Filming on the second season is already under way in Ireland, with a possible late 2027 release, though it could slip to the first quarter of 2028 if that window is missed. Bloodaxe's first season, starring Xavier Molyneux and Jessica Madsen, is set to premiere on Prime Video in 2027.
