An administrative worker at HMP Moorland near Doncaster has been jailed for 21 months after sharing confidential information about an inmate, which subsequently reached the prisoner's phone. Courtney Harrison, 27, of Edlington, admitted misconduct in a public office and unauthorised access to computer material at Sheffield Crown Court, in a case highlighting the trust placed in prison staff and the consequences of breaching it.

Harrison shared details about prisoner George Tunney in 2023 after a friend and former colleague, said to have "some sort of connection" to the inmate, asked her to pass on confidential information by email. Tunney absconded soon afterwards and was found weeks later in the south of England, though the court heard there was "no direct evidence" the information aided his escape. Harrison had also improperly searched files relating to high-profile murderers Lucy Letby, Harold Shipman and Rose West. Recorder of Sheffield Judge Jeremy Richardson noted she was just 23 at the time and was "immature and lonely", but said an "example had to be made" given the responsibility entrusted to prison officials.
