## Key points

- A Sacramento pregnancy centre now offers broader women’s health services.
- Its director says faith guides the clinic’s mission.
- Jessica Rose sought care while trying to detransition.

## Summary

Alternatives Pregnancy Center in Sacramento has expanded from providing help with unplanned pregnancies into a full-service women’s health clinic, including care for a transgender man seeking to detransition. Executive director Heidi Matzke says the clinic’s work is guided by her Christian faith and a belief that it should help patients embrace their sex as women.

Matzke recounts meeting Jessica Rose, a biologically female patient who said she wanted to detransition after encountering Christ and had been left without medical care by her doctors. Rose said she had been offered hormones and breast-removal surgery after a 30-minute consultation; she had prayed for free women’s medical care before approaching Matzke at a church. The article places the centre among hundreds of pregnancy help centres in the United States.
