## Key points

- More than 1,800 people want green space protected.
- Skyline plans several adventure attractions at Parkwood Springs.
- A planning application and public consultation are expected.

## Summary

More than 1,800 people have signed a petition urging Sheffield City Council to protect green space at Parkwood Springs as plans progress to redevelop the former ski village. Campaigners say the proposed adventure attractions could remove footpaths, mountain bike trails and free outdoor space used by local residents, including people in some of Sheffield’s poorest communities.

New Zealand-based Skyline Enterprises wants to build a downhill karting luge ride, playground, zipline and surfing experience on the site, which closed after a fire in 2012. The council has allocated £12m for nearby road and junction improvements to accommodate extra traffic, and a planning application is expected over the winter, followed by about three weeks of public consultation. The council says no application has yet been submitted and any proposal will be assessed for its effects on ecology, biodiversity, heritage, transport and public access.
