PlayStation Network suffered widespread disruption after an Amazon Web Services outage, leaving many users unable to access core features despite Sony’s status page initially reporting that services were operating normally. The incident matters because it affected digital game licences, downloads, online play and account functions, highlighting the reliance of PlayStation services on cloud infrastructure.

AWS said it had resolved its own service issues and expected error rates and timeouts to keep falling as network routes were restored. By 2:35pm on 24 July, PSN showed partial recovery: the PlayStation Store was reachable but content pages could still return “Content Can’t Be Found”, while friends lists and recently played games appeared inconsistently; reports were high in the US and increasing in the UK.
