QUEENSRŸCHE Singer TODD LA TORRE: ‘I Don’t Do Any Vocal Warm-Ups’ And ‘I’ve Never Taken Vocal Lessons’

Blabbermouth · 2 months ago

Queensrÿche frontman Todd La Torre has spoken about how he maintains his voice in a new video posted to his Facebook page, revealing that he takes a notably relaxed approach compared with many professional singers. Responding to a fan's question about any "secret concoctions", La Torre said he has performed some of his best shows after eating pizza and drinking Coca-Cola beforehand, and stressed that rest, hydration and simply resting his voice on tour matter far more than any strict regime.

The 52-year-old said he has never taken vocal lessons and does not warm up, noting that revered singers such as Ronnie James Dio and Rob Halford reportedly did not either, and comparing keeping his range in shape to a weightlifter needing to keep lifting heavy weights. He does not drink alcohol, has never smoked beyond quitting cigarettes three and a half years ago, and, in a separate 2024 interview with The Metal Voice, said Queensrÿche still perform their songs in standard tuning rather than downtuning to make high notes easier — a practice he criticised other singers for concealing. La Torre joined Queensrÿche in 2012 after fronting Crimson Glory, and has since recorded four studio albums with the band, including "Digital Noise Alliance" (2022).
