## Key points

- Judge James Boasberg is handling requests to unseal the warrant.
- The search is linked to two federal investigations involving Omar.
- Omar’s lawyers are challenging how agents carried out the search.

## Summary

Judge James Boasberg is overseeing requests to unseal the warrant used to search Representative Ilhan Omar’s Washington home. The dispute matters because it concerns public access to records in an ongoing federal investigation, while Omar’s lawyers separately challenge how agents conducted the search.

The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar’s home on 12 October under a warrant issued by Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh. The New York Times, Judicial Watch and 14 press organisations have sought to unseal it; the Justice Department says disclosure could compromise the investigation and asked for more time until the warrant is fully executed. Investigators are examining financial disclosure discrepancies and allegations that Omar’s father misstated her age on immigration paperwork, while Omar’s lawyers seek the return of seized property and allege agents restricted her access to counsel.
