## Key points

- The Raiders return to the Bay Area for a regular-season game against the 49ers.
- Las Vegas are 4-4 and remain in the Wild Card picture.
- The fixture revives a rivalry rooted in decades of Bay Area football history.

## Summary

The Raiders will face the 49ers in Santa Clara in their first regular-season game back in the Bay Area since leaving Oakland for Las Vegas after the 2019 season. The game carries weight for Las Vegas, who are 4-4 and within reach of a Wild Card place, as well as for fans of the two long-time rivals and the region’s shared football history.

The article says the 49ers opposed moving the fixture to Mexico City, keeping it at home at Levi’s Stadium. Las Vegas have just beaten the New York Jets 38-33; a fifth consecutive defeat might have shifted attention towards the future and first overall pick Fernando Mendoza. The teams’ history includes players such as John Brodie, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, and decades of unsuccessful efforts to build stadiums in Oakland and San Francisco.
