"Rain Catcher", the feature directorial debut of Michele Fiascaris, has premiered in the Proxima Competition strand of the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it stands out as one of the more commercially minded titles on offer. The British psychological thriller follows Miles, a reclusive voyeuristic photographer who prowls London's rainy streets shooting strangers and posting the results online under the pseudonym "Rain Catcher", until a watchful neighbour and a mysterious recurring woman in his images put his work and his existence at risk.

The neo-noir stars Dudley O'Shaughnessy (Top Boy) as Miles, alongside Kate Dickie, Jessie Mei Li and Iris Law, the model and daughter of Jude Law, who plays a character called Cassandra. London's Brutalist Barbican centre features prominently, and the festival's mayor named the film on her must-watch list for the anniversary edition. Fiascaris, who wrote the script with Filippo Polesel, developed the story from a 2018 short of the same name inspired by an online video of a filmed stranger turning the tables on the person watching him; Cercamon is handling sales, with casting by Gary Davy.
