Rainbow Six Tactics’ Best Feature Will Raise the Bar for All Strategy Games
Ubisoft has unveiled Rainbow Six Tactics, a new turn-based tactics spin-off of the Rainbow Six series developed by Ubisoft Paris, revealed during Gamescom's Opening Night Live and slated for release in 2027. A journalist who viewed a 20-minute closed-door gameplay demo at Gamescom 2026 singled out its "breach planning" phase — allowing players to position units and queue up simultaneous orders before execution, similar to plotting a chess opening — as a standout mechanic they believe could set a new standard for the wider strategy genre.
The game is set within Rainbow Six Siege's lore, taking place between the years 10 and 11 as the Rainbow task force is rebuilt amid a global crisis, and brings back Paul Bishop from the Rainbow Six Vegas games as unit leader. It features 15 of Siege's operators, a smaller roster than the shooter's 70-plus, chosen so each character feels distinct. The demo reportedly showed coordinated tactics, such as Nøkk turning invisible to bypass a sniper while Montagne blocked a shot, drawing comparisons to 2024's Tactical Breach Wizards. Rainbow Six Tactics is due out on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X in 2027.
