The Ramones will be honoured with an official 50th anniversary tribute on 30 August at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery, marking half a century since the release of the punk band's self-titled debut album. The event, announced on 7 July by Ramones Productions, Inc. and Hollywood Forever and hosted by actor John Travolta, matters as a high-profile celebration of an album widely credited with sparking the global punk movement.

The evening will include the first live performance by the Cretin Family supergroup, featuring Rancid's Tim Armstrong, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone, plus unannounced guests. It will also feature a double-feature screening of the 50th anniversary edition of Carrie and Travolta's new film Propeller One-Way Night Coach, a DJ set from artist Shepard Fairey, and proceeds going to cancer research. The tribute forms part of a year-long celebration, with Rhino Records issuing reissues including a picture-disc pressing of The Ramones and a coloured edition of Live at the Roxy.
