Rangers have reportedly agreed a deal to sign 22-year-old Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy, whose career to date has taken him through Venezuela, Uruguay, Ukraine and the United States. The Venezuela international would bring physical presence to Ibrox, offering height in attack that Rangers have lacked since Youssef Chermiti's anterior cruciate ligament injury early this season, though the move would also raise questions about how he fits alongside existing strikers such as Lawrence Shankland.

Kelsy made his professional debut aged just 16 for Mineros de Guayana in 2021, having travelled 500 miles from his hometown of Valencia and hidden in a mining truck to evade a Covid-era travel ban. After a brief spell at Uruguay's Boston River, he joined Shakhtar Donetsk, scoring nine goals in 37 appearances across two title-winning seasons while living through the war in Ukraine. He later moved to Major League Soccer, first on loan at FC Cincinnati and then permanently at Portland Timbers, where the 6ft 4in, left-footed forward has scored 16 goals in 53 appearances and is described by the club's general manager as a hard-working, physically imposing presence still developing tactical efficiency.
