## Key points

- Netflix cancels Ransom Canyon after two seasons, no Season 3.
- Season 2 viewership fell 43% from Season 1's opening week.
- Finale ends with leads together, leaving some plot threads unresolved.

## Summary

Netflix has decided against a third season of Ransom Canyon, the Texas-set romantic drama starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, drawing the show to a close roughly six weeks after Season 2 premiered on 23 July. The cancellation reflects Netflix's now-familiar approach of weighing viewing figures against production costs, and it leaves central couple Staten Kirkland and Quinn O'Grady together at the end, a deliberate contrast to Season 1's cliffhanger split.

Season 2 opened to 4.1 million views, a 43% drop from Season 1's 7.2 million, and fell out of Netflix's weekly Top 10 after three weeks compared with four for the debut run. The series, adapted from Jodi Thomas's novels, had already survived a shaky renewal process last year, returning with a shortened eight-episode order and a reshuffled supporting cast; insiders say the retooled season was creatively stronger, but the smaller audience was not enough to justify the show's considerable budget given its star-led cast. The finale leaves loose threads, including a possible love triangle for Ellie and a bigger future role for Levi (Steve Howey), that will now go unresolved, while Kelly's earlier stand for pay parity with Duhamel remains one of the production's more notable legacies.
