Netflix has released a trailer for "Ray Gunn," a science-fiction noir mystery directed by acclaimed filmmaker Brad Bird, known for directing "The Incredibles" trilogy and "Ratatouille." The film stars Sam Rockwell as private detective Raymond Gunn and Scarlett Johansson as a pop star whose career hangs in the balance amid scandal and mystery. This project marks a significant moment in Bird's career, as he departed from directing Pixar's forthcoming "Incredibles 3" to dedicate himself fully to this long-developing passion project.

Bird first conceived "Ray Gunn" in the 1990s after viewing a trailer for the 1989 film "Peter Gunn," initially developed at Turner Feature Animation before being shelved when he directed "The Iron Giant." The project was revived in 2021 when Bird signed a deal with Skydance Animation, reuniting him with producer John Lasseter and executives David Ellison and Dana Goldberg from his "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol" days. The ensemble cast includes Tom Waits, Patton Oswalt, Kathryn Hunter, John Ratzenberger and Jamie Costa, with the story set in a futuristic world shared by humans and aliens. The film will be released on Netflix on 18 December.
