The Berkshire traveller site once used as a hideout by the killers of PC Andrew Harper has undergone a £4.2 million refurbishment funded by the taxpayer, sparking anger and unease among local residents. PC Harper's family had called for the site to be demolished after his killers used it to shelter and destroy evidence following his death, making the investment particularly contentious given the site's association with the crime.

The Four Houses Corner site, located in woodland off a country lane near the village of Burghfield Common in Berkshire, has now been substantially upgraded. Nearby residents fear the improved facility could become a welcoming base for some of the men convicted over PC Harper's murder once they become eligible for early release.
