Reddit will soon restrict Old Reddit to logged-in users who have used it within the previous six months, saying the change is intended to curb scraping and other automated abuse. The move matters to longtime users who prefer Old Reddit’s familiar design, and has renewed concerns that the company could eventually close or further limit the service.

The change is expected in the next few months; moderators will remain exempt if logged in. Reddit says it wants to preserve Old Reddit for people who rely on it, while CEO Steve Huffman has previously suggested access limits and a rebuild on modern technology may be needed. Reddit will also end RSS feed support on 13 November, citing scraping risks; moderators are advised to migrate workflows, while users who rely on RSS outside moderated communities will have no replacement.
